Discover Phuket's Hottest Real Estate Spots in 2024
The Hottest Neighborhoods In Phuket Right Now

Things have certainly been heating up in Phuket in the past few years. And we’re not talking about the weather. Why does Phuket seem to be undergoing a boom recently? Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to this question – there is an array of factors that are influencing the situation. This includes everything from how the COVID-19 pandemic affected peoples’ outlook and decisions, the rise in popularity of remote work, or even people’s frustration with the economics or politics in their home countries. Regardless of the reasons, Phuket is a popular place nowadays, and some spots are hotter than others.

Layan

Despite its natural beauty, relaxed vibes, and proximity to the Laguna resort complex, the Layan area has remained fairly undeveloped. That situation was bound to change, and alas, several development projects are underway. The allure of the Layan area lies in its quiet, natural state and away-from-it-all feel. Many people may be content with that, but what adds to the allure is how close it is to commercial areas where many international restaurants, supermarkets, and retail shops can be found. One other feature that may add to the desirability of Layan is the national forest area which provides a guaranteed nature preserve.

Cherng Talay

The commercial area that lies near Layan that was just mentioned is Cherng Talay. This area includes the Laguna resort complex and golf course as well as Surin and Bang Tao beaches. The region boasts an eclectic mix of everything from long-established local neighborhoods to 5-star resorts, mosques and Buddhist temples, local markets and international grocers, kids' activities, beach clubs, and nightlife options. Cherng Talay has been a popular spot for expats for years but has seen a boom in development, both commercial and residential, and renovation in recent times.

Rawai

At the southern tip of the island of Phuket, Rawai encompasses the area south of Chalong Circle and contains Friendship Beach on the east coast, Rawai Beach in the south-southeast, and Nai Harn Beach to the west as well as a handful of smaller beaches and coves and nearby offshore islands. Once revered for the amount of open space, minimal development, and artsy vibes, rapid development has dominated Rawai. The boom began at the tail-end of the COVID-19 pandemic and has only picked up momentum. Numerous large-scale condominium projects are recently completed or currently underway, new villas pop up often, and empty land is rapidly disappearing. Land prices have essentially doubled in three years.

Chalong

Situated just north of Rawai along the east coast is Chalong which is also gaining popularity. While Chalong can’t claim any of the west coast’s world-renowned beaches, it is an urbanized, yet livable, centrally located area. It is home to the always-popular Soi Ta Yied which is famous for the plethora of Muay Thai gyms, fitness camps, and healthy restaurants. It is also a favorite amongst families who enjoy the safety and family-friend vibes of gated communities like Land and House as well as the many international schools nearby. Other useful amenities include the Chalong Pier with boats embarking to many offshore destinations, the Chalong Bay Rum Distillery, and Big Buddha.
