Phuket is Thailand’s largest island at around 540 square kilometers. From north to south the island stretches 49 kilometers and east to west around 21 kilometers meaning you are never very far from the sea.
Most of the development is concentrated in the southern half of the island with Phuket Town, Chalong and Rawi on the southeast coast, and Patong, Kata and Karon on the west coast. Heading north, the areas become less developed with the most undeveloped area being Mai Khao in the far north of the island.
Whether you are looking to purchase a holiday home or permanent residence, choosing the location of your property will be one of the most critical decisions you make. Do you prefer to be closer to Phuket Town or Patong with a wide range of amenities available? Close to the popular tourist beaches on the west coast for higher rental potential? In the peaceful north, conveniently close to the airport? Or the east coast for proximity to the Phuket’s main marinas?
